Remarks & Notes |
It must have been my lucky day to catch the illusive CLNA crossing the span over the Pamlico River in pretty downtown Washington with a GP30 on the point. This was once part of the old NS line from Norfolk to Charlotte. The CLNA now operates the line from Plymouth to Raleigh. The bridge across the sound from Plymouth/Mackeys to Edenton is long gone, but this structure survives to create a classic tidewater railroading scene. The through-truss span in the center is usually left open to allow boats to pass freely. Trains only traverse the bridge a couple times a week. If accepted, this will be my 500th pic on RP. Many thanks to the staff and patrons of this great community! |
