As a stiff breeze from an approaching cold front blows the lingering clouds off the continental divide revealing the stars above, the trailing headlight of the helpers on a loaded eastbound coal train illuminate the tracks far below near the mouth of Swannanoa Tunnel. These manned helpers are necessary to help the 14,000 tons over the eastbound grades between Asheville and Ridgecrest, and now on their way down "the loops" they'll provide additional dynamic braking power. |
