Another view of KD7 2-8-0s 581 taking a mainline siding in Shanghai. These locos could be thought of as beefed up US Army Transportaion Corps S-160s but in reality were a separate design. Similarities are clearly evident. Though larger than the USATC 2-8-0 they were still small for Chinese mainline standards and spent the second half of their service lives in yard and transfer service where they performed well. All operated in the south of the country well away from the major steam centers of the Northeast. The last of the class was retired in 1988 or shortly thereafter. |
