Remarks & Notes |
CN's U741 ore train has stopped clear of Partridge while freight L-549 puts its train together. This short delay allowed LS&I's 7-Tilden to sneak past at Empire Junction with C30-7 3073 and U30C 3009 leading, providing a somewhat unique shot of CN and LS&I ore trains in the same frame. The two covered holes under the number on the ore cars are steaming ports used during the steam era when locomotives would supply steam to poles that were inserted into these holes to thaw frozen ore in fall and spring. These DM&IR cars were new when Yellowstone 2-8-8-4s powered mainline trains on the mighty Missabe Road. |
