| 50 Years ago to-day - SNCF 4-cylinder compound 4-6-2 No 231K22 climbs Caffiers incline with train 84, the 14.24 Calais-Maritime to Paris Nord rapide. This engine, preserved in Germany after some years in England, was originally built for the Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée by the Chantiers de la Loire in 1916 and rebuilt by the SNCF in 1948. It was withdrawn from service in November 1969 after 53 years service. |
