| 50 Years ago - SNCF 141 R 498 is seen near Le Haut Banc on the climb to Caffiers from the south the the 12.20 Paris Nord to Calais-Maritime ' La Freche d'Or' (Golden Arrow) train. The use of a 2-8-2 was due to the number of Pacifics available at Calais depot declining due to withdrawals and they would finish the following January. 141 R 498 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Chester, Pennsylania and entered service in February 1946. Withdrawal was in 1973. |
