Remarks & Notes |
A very road weary RS-18 is outside the Diesel Shop and about to lead another train. The RS-18 was arguably MLW's best diesel locomotive. CPR acquired 72 of them in 1957-58. Beginning in 1980 CPR embarked on a program to extensively rebuild 69 of them into the 1800-1868 series. They were given a new cab design, chop noses and new electrical equipment, but kept the 251 engine and dynamic brakes. 67 of them were in service at the end of 1993. CPR would dispose of them all but a number still operate on shortlines in the U.S. and Canada. |
