| Winter on Tehachapi's Northern Slope. While Tehachapi's southern slope is known to receive the occasional dusting of snow if the timing is right, the lower elevation of the lower slope makes its winter look a little different. Thanks to some passing storms earlier in the season, the hills surrounding Illmon have turned a light shade of green as trees continue to drop their brown and red leaves. On this cool afternoon just south of Bakersfield, Canadian National No. 5745 brings up the rear of a of a West Colton-bound manifest as the train begins its assault on Tehachapi as the head-end prepares to enter the narrows. |
