Night In Casa Blanca. On the night of January 2, 2015, a two-car Hershey Electric Railway train with car 501 leading was sitting in the Casa Blanca station in Havana, Cuba awaiting its next call. At the time, these Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya built cars from Spain were holding down the scheduled three round trips per day between Havana and Matanzas, but since Hurricane Irma in September of 2017, service has become irregular and is frequently suspended. The line was originally built by the Hershey Company to transport both sugar and workers on the island in the early 20th Century, and though the company has been gone for decades, the railway and towns in the area still bear its legacy. The "Christ of Havana" statue overlooking the scene was created by Cuban sculptor Jilma Madera and dedicated in 1958 fifteen days before Fidel Castro's forces took over Havana.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
