On March 24, BNSF and the US Department of Transportation operated a train from Los Angeles to San Diego, returning on March 25, to evaluate the trackage. Nearly two weeks later, that train made a return appearance in Orange, as it was heading from Los Angeles to San Bernardino, and needed to evaluate Metrolink’s Olive Sub this trip. The train, comprised of BNSF Dash 9-44CW 5159 (again) on one end, and ET44C4 3740 on the other, with DOTX test car 216 between them, waits in Orange for a lull in train activity on the single-track Olive Sub. While here, Metrolink Orange Line train 617, heading from Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo to Los Angeles, had to head north on Track 2, the normally southbound track due to the BNSF train holding on Track 1, requiring the passengers to move to the other platform.
