Remarks & Notes |
WC only managed to repaint three of the 17 ex Soo GP30's that they bought at start up before deciding that other power was necessary, as the wiring in these old warriors was getting mighty crispy. They were used into the mid 90's and then a good portion of the fleet was retired and scrapped. Never much of a favorite with crews due to their rough riding 1948 model FA-1 trade in trucks, the few survivors continued to soldier on until 2001. Here train OACTI is seen arriving at Soo Yard after a long trouble plagued trip from Escanaba. The 711 normally wouldn't be found in ore service but was taken off train SOGBA at Manisitque as the trailing SD45 on this job was having ground relay problems due to the fine snow. This trains original crew was dead on HOS at Kinross and was re-crewed which delayed this train long enough for morning photos at Kinross and Sault Ste. Marie. My take on the whole situation "Thank You Old Man Winter". |
