Remarks & Notes |
The end of an era. Unfortunately, we seem to be saying that a lot lately in this hobby, but sadly, all good things must come to an end at some point. That time has come for the Black Mesa & Lake Powell, a very unique electric railroad that operates coal between the Peabody Energy Kayenta Mine and the Navajo Generating Station power plant in Page, Arizona. After taking on 85 loads of coal, the quad of E60C-2's (labeled for N de M, also known as Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México) begin the 78 mile trip through the desert. The BM&LP made their final run on August 26th and it was a shame to see them go. A private ceremony was held at the Page plant that day for the farewell. It was a pleasure to meet new friends and chat with the families of the railroad employees along the way. While another classic railroad has gone into the history books, I’m glad that I had the opportunity to catch a flight to Arizona for some photos. Black Mesa & Lake Powell Railroad - - - 1973-2019 |
