| FARWELL TX Oct 8 1988 — Santa Fe GP35u 2838 handles a local freight near the Texas-New Mexico border. EMD built the unit in April 1964 as GP35 1338 and delivered it in a blue body with yellow ends (bookends). In the March-July general renumbering it became 3338. After Aug 26 1972 it was painted in blue body with yellow warbonnet. In September 1983 it was rebuilt as GP35u 2838 and gained a cab roof air conditioner. Between July 31 1985 and July 24 1986 it was renumbered to SPSF 3595 without a repaint. Before Jan 1 1991 it was renumbered to ATSF 2838. It was transferred to BNSF Railway CO in September 1995. In September 1999 It was renumbered and relettered to BNSF 2538 but still in blue with yellow warbonnet. Corrections sought and always welcome. My photo. |
