Remarks & Notes
Climbing upgrade and about to crest Cajon Pass' Summit is Union Pacific train MWCNP-02 (but, as it is operating upon BNSF Railway's Cajon Sub, its BNSF symbol is F-MWCNP01-02M). This train departed UP's West Colton Yard about 25 miles back, and crossed over to the BNSF at Keenbrook, in Cajon Pass' lower elevation. This manifest (UP-speak for a loose car freight train) is headed for North platte, Nebraska, and it has a lot of power – a total of 35,200-horsepower – assigned to it. Up front are ES44AC 5265, AC4400CWs 5912, 6077 and 6292, ES44AC 7419, AC4400CW 6152 and ET44AC 2695, with AC4400CW 6403 placed midtrain (and visible in the distance). Not an EMD unit in sight! This train will remain on the BNSF until just nine miles beyond Barstow, where this train diverges back onto UP rails at Daggett. No snow on the Pass in January? Sadly, there was no snow on the Pass all winter. (Cajon Pass, California – January 2, 2025)
