UP suffered a major derailment on their Mason City Sub at Hampton, IA, on Labor Day. While cleanup takes place, the Iowa Northern has taken a bunch of southbound detours from Manly to Cedar Rapids for the UP. This type of detour hasn't happened too many times in the past 30 years. It's interesting to see big-time trains on the IANR. Here, a South St. Paul to Des Moines freight pulls into Butler Yard on the north side of Shell Rock. I am not sure what the plan was, but the train was parked here for a while. With not many crews and a lot of capacity, keeping things moving isn't an easy feat for this small railroad.
