This line was built to allow Wisconsin Central passenger trains to access Central Station after WC exited Grand Central in 1899. WC (now leased by Soo) returned to Grand Central in 1914, staying there until 1963 when Soo went back to Central (on a different route) for its final two years of passenger service to Chicago.
