There's a little more here than meets the eye, as this particular example originated as an SD40 of the Quebec, North Shore & Labrador. The blanked markers over the numberboards betray a Canadian-built unit (its as-built nose headlight was lost in the SD40-2 upgrading process,) but the huge fuel tanks, which relocated the air reservoirs to inside the long hood (note air piping atop the rear hood,) nails it as former QNS&L property.

Nice photo with an interesting leader. This unit is an original factory built SD40-2 and is not an older SD40 upgraded to DASH 2 specs.
