These machines originated as Austrian-Hungarian kkStB class 170 in 1897. The deliveries continued to year 1921 as ČSD class 434.0. They have undergone two reconstructions, first one in late 1920's and second one in the late 1930's that made them comparably efficient to latest steam designs, some 60 years newer, with one advantage - much lower axle loads. These features made them the last steams to be withdrawn from ČSD commercial non-vintage operations in 1980 because they were needed for hauling trains over the old Ivančický viadukt ("Viaduct of Ivančice"). Remnant of that bridge can be seen on this photo behind the new one.
