Nice picture. I was there on 92/2013. It was nice for Union Pacific to bring up the DD 44 X, for Illinois railway museum 60th anniversary.

Too bad UP wouldn't "wake up" one of these existing Turbines?

I want to point out to interesting points: #1. IRM has a Centennial of their own. I would ask why they didn't have 6396 posed with it, but it is currently being (cosmetically) restored. #2. Technically, the first unit of the Turbine could be restored to operation. It's my understanding that the first unit houses a diesel engine that is used for hostling around the yard. The Turbine would be to expensive to restore, of coarse, but just think about it. What if?

Forgive my ignorance, please, but did a lashup like this ever run in real life? (Or with the DDA40X in the front?)

Well, during the night shoot they had IRM's DD40AX along with UP 6936 and the gas turbine, you can see photos people posted on this website. It could have been possible for a lashup like this, since the last gas turbine operated in December of 1969 and the DD40AX's began being built in April of 1969. Now I got that information from Wikipedia, so I'm not certain that it's 100% true, but I think it is generally.
