More of the details of the "story." The B&O owned Staten Island Rapid Transit (SIRT) "ridership decline" was largely brought about by the city of New York SUBSIDIZING buses at 1/2 the price of the SIRT fare. Thanks to that idiotic move on the part of the city, it now takes the unfortunate residents of Staten Island's north shore communities 2-3 times as long to reach the State Island Ferry on the "bus" as it used to on the SIRT trains. To this former resident of said north shore of The Forgotten Borough, "bus" has long been a "four letter word."
