Beautiful shots Bill...…..Deer Lodge was a major yard and shops on Lines West where all the electrics were maintained until 1973 when the juice was turned off under the Chief Mechanical officer Dean Radabaugh. His son Wayne was an Engineer on the Milwaukee commuter lines out of Chicago(C&M) Division... Wayne retired from Metra a few years ago at the age of 73 but passed away a few months later. Both Dean and Wayne were hardcore Milwaukee Road guys during the years I knew them.

One of the interesting details is if you look at the coupler beam of these, you can see the attachment points for buffers that have been ground away. The reason is simple, at the time, Russia still had some rolling stock from other countries that had buffer and chain coupling; so they had to have something that could mate up with it. When the US railroads took delivery, the company had to remove the buffers, but the remnants of where they were remain.

I thought those were pole pockets, but they look to be too far from the edge of the frame for that.
Too bad the Milwaukee had such incompetent management. They had lots of dedicated employees and legions of foamers.
