Nice! With all the bridges and water, it almost looks like a model railroad.

"(T)he original Central Pacific" was constructed along N/Rt. bank of Humboldt River in this lower reach of Palisade Canyon during the late winter w/track-laying following in early spring of 1868 (ref. Lt. col. on p.25 lower-? in Southern Pacific’s Salt Lake Division by J. R. Signor ©2007 Signature Press). That original alignment’s through-cut can be seen in Lt. of frame to Lt. of former SP’s 14th crossing of the River (ref. map in lower-? of p.161, ibid.). The current former SP alignment was constructed as part-of the Harriman relocation work in 1902 (ref. p.’s 68 - 69 and map on p.70, ibid.), whereas the former WP track in this area was completed-in early 1909 (ref. Lt. col. on p.99, ibid.). Floods in Feb.-Mar., 1910 washed-away much of that new grade, and also caused extensive damage to the then-SP (ibid.), and evidence from-same can still be seen along both sides of the river in upper-middle of the above image. UP continues the 183 mi. of paired-track operations begun under the USRA on 03-Nov-1918 (ref. Lt. col. on p.128, ibid.) over both predecessor Pacific lines between Alazon, 2 mi. W-of Wells and Weso, 4 mi. E-of Winnemucca. That initially ended on 01-Mar-1920, and was reinstituted on 01-Aug-1924 (ref. Lt col.’s on p.129 & 131, ibid.). The former WP is the eastward main, whereas (as seen above) the ex-SP handles W/b movements. This is both a rugged and rather remote area, some 1? mi. SSW-of the former CP’s Palisade station w/the nearest public access being the Rose Ranch-Beowawe Rd. about ? mi. over the hill to the ESE. Certainly worth the effort to shoot when both weather, sunlight angle and train movements co-operate, as-seen above!
